Low Wifi range CC3200

Hello,

First of all, I wanted to thank you for what you’re doing and all the information available here!

I’m having an issue with a defective Toniebox I purchased.

I managed to get it working again with a new battery.
However, I’ve noticed a problem with the Wi-Fi range.

The setup process was chaotic—I had to stick my phone right next to the Toniebox, then the Toniebox right next to the Wi-Fi router…
Everything eventually worked, but the range issue persists.

To add content or sync the Toniebox, I have to place it right next to my internet router.
I should mention that I haven’t modified anything (CFW, etc.); the Toniebox is running official firmware.

Does anyone know where the antenna is located on the PCB? I suspect it might be the component labeled “A1” next to the CC3200 chip?

Thanks to all of you!

I had one with exact same issue. There is no antenna afaik. It comes right from the chip. The “cpu” chip (with the texas logo) has wifi embeded as well. So when I was asking for solution back in time - it was to change/replace this chip or leave it like it is. There is no fix. The chip seems to be damaged.

That at least was result of my research.

I just replaced the motherboard and toniebox works like a charm again.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.
I’ll leave it as it is then — an internet connection isn’t really necessary 24/7.

Thanks again for getting back to me.
