Maximum custom URL/IP length

Hi,
I have a CC3200 box and would like to use TeddyCloud by setting a different URL. However, the domains I own are longer than the original ones. Current IPs are also longer. The wiki states “it should not be longer than the original url, which is 12 characters”.
Is this really a “should” or in fact a “must”?
Would an ESP32 box support longer URLs?

The should is alright. If your URL gets longer, it will overwrite following text symbols in the firmware. That should not be a problem in the current ofw, but if the structure changes it may be one in the future.
